You are wandering around an arts-crafts and vintage swap meet, and you come across an old cigar box on a table. There is a woman sitting there with twinkling eyes, who hands you the box and says, "It has been waiting for you." The box has frayed edges and a peeling label with a picture of a beautiful woman on a balcony being serenaded from below by a man and his guitar. Curious, you take the box home and put into it the following things...
...polaroids of eerie houses with bright red doors..
...fragments of vintage concert posters, and torn magazine pages
with photographs of your favorite rock bands..
...love letters from an old typewriter scribbled with endearing
idiosyncrasies..
...lyrics to old country songs written on dusty dirt roads about
broken hearts and beat up pickup trucks..
...carefully crafted miniature objects of curiosity, affection and
nostalgia..
...hand drawn portraits with smudges of pencil and charcoal along
the edges..
...unfinished designs of peacocks, nightingales and roses meant for
an eternal life as a sprawling back tattoo..
...an old family recipe for pinoche fudge written illegibly in
french..
...a dusty undeveloped film canister, a photograph of a white kitty
with little ears, a very special magic pebble, and a wooden
black crow that sends chills up and down your spine every time
you look at it..
...Feeling satisfied, you take a piece of the beautiful Belgian lace that you found at the Goodwill store, and you drape it over a little table in your living room, and then you set that box upon the table. You invite your closest friends over to listen to records and share stories and secrets, and enjoy a glass of delicious red wine. Upon seeing your little box on its table they get curious eyes, and carefully pick up the box and open it to reveal your treasures. One by one their eyes twinkle as a manic wave of excitement runs through the air and vibrates the table, which makes a sound like "Ooooooooohhh!"
Your heart smiles with contentment.
